Ondo Poll: APC Takes Lead in 13 LGAs as Collation Resumes at 5 AM
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a commanding lead in 13 local government areas in the ongoing Ondo governorship election. The collation process, temporarily paused, will resume at 5 AM for the remaining results.
After announcing results from 13 Local Government Areas in the Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to take a break and will resume collating at 5 am to address the remaining five areas.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading in all 13 local governments announced so far, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in second place.
The collation officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, declared a recess to provide time for the results from the remaining local governments to arrive.
“We still have five local governments to cover, but we will now take a break until 5am. At that time, we’ll continue with results from Akure North, Okitipupa, and Odigbo as well as Ilaje and Ese Odo,” stated Prof Akinwunmi.
The 13 Local Government Areas announced so far include Ifedore, Ondo East, Ileoluji Oke-Igbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West,Ose ,Akoko North East,and Akure south

The remaining five local governments are Ilaje, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Akure North, and Ese Odo.
Of the 13 local governments announced thus far, only one faced a contentious issue. In Idanre, the PDP agent claimed there were incidents of vote buying, ballot box snatching, and no elections in certain areas. He requested that the returning officer reject the results from Idanre.
Prof. Kunle Ajayi, the INEC National Commissioner, addressed the public in Akure, Ondo State’s capital, before collation began and assured that the results would be announced by 6 a.m. at the latest.
“I assure you that we won’t leave until we’ve declared the winner. We’ll stay until the results from the last local government are in.”
The National Commissioner added, “I am not afraid that everything might be finished by 6am.”
In Ifedore Local Government, the APC secured 14,157 votes to defeat the PDP, which received 5,897 votes.
In Ondo East Local Government, the APC secured 8,163 votes, surpassing the PDP’s total of 2,843 votes.
In IleOluji/OkeIgbo Local Government, APC received 16,600 votes while PDP secured 4,442 votes. In Idanre Local Government Area, the APC garnered 9,114 votes compared to PDP’s 8,940 votes.
In the Idanre Local Government Area, a PDP representative claimed that no voting took place in Ofosun Oniseri.
He also claimed that there was an incident of ballot snatching at Alade.
He suggested that the votes from the ward should be removed from the local government’s total.
In Irele Local Government, the APC received 17,117 votes while the PDP obtained 6,601. In Akoko South West, the APC secured 29,700 votes to outperform the PDP which gathered 5,517.
In Owo Local Government Area, the APC secured 31,914 votes to surpass the PDP’s total of 4,740 votes.
In Ondo West Local Government, the APC received 20,755 votes, whereas the PDP secured 6,387 votes.
In Akoko South East Local Government, the APC received 12,140 votes compared to the PDP’s 2,692 votes.
In Akoko North West, the APC secured victory with 25,010 votes, while the PDP received 5,502 votes.
APC emerged victorious in Ose Local Government, securing a total of 16,555 votes compared to PDP’s 4,472. In Akure South LGA, APC received 32,969 votes while PDP garnered 17,926.
In Akoko North East, the APC secured victory with 25,657 votes compared to the PDP’s 5,072.
After the results of the 13th local government were announced, Akinwumi stated that collation would resume at 5 a.m., when the outcomes from the remaining five local government areas would be disclosed.
