Ondo Muslims express disappointment over subdued Eid-el-Kabir celebration due to economic challenges
Several Muslims in Ondo State have revealed that they had not had it this terrible in previous years, following this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Muslim faithful bemoaned that their preparations for a grand celebration were thwarted by the plight of the economy.
Some Muslims claimed that their situation was impacted by the price of goods in the market, specifically ram, goat, and cooking supplies.
Islamic priest Quadri Jimoh said in an interview with Obsanjonews.com from Akure that he could not afford to sacrifice a ram for Eid-el-Kabir this year, marking the first time in the previous 11 years.

“My sibling, how would I like to proceed? It gets worse than this. Since 2013, I have conveniently and consistently killed ram, but this year, I dare not.
“Where can I acquire the money to purchase a N200,000–N350,000 ram? I simply can’t afford it. I used to buy the sizes between N70,000 and N80,000, and those were the ones they were selling for that money.
We chose to have frozen chicken so that my kids would know we are celebrating. The quantity of rice, tomatoes, and pepper we purchased was absurd. I’m not sure how long we’ll keep doing this.
Jamal Hassan, another devout Muslim, insisted that this year was different from previous years in that he had never missed celebrating Sallah with his family in his birthplace of Kwara State.
The federal civil official declared, “I have never once celebrated Ileya (Sallah) without my family since I was posted to Akure.”
“After figuring out how much it would cost to go to Kwara and how long I would spend there, I had second thoughts. What is my current income? I apologised for not being able to make it down and had to send my mum the small amount.
“The effects of the nation’s suffering on its citizens are becoming worrying. People are currently experiencing a lot.
