In a strategic move ahead of the Ondo election, three candidates step down and endorse Governor Aiyedatiwa, consolidating support and reshaping the race.
In advance of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, three candidates have withdrawn from the race to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the candidate representing the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ayedatiwa, announced on Thursday that Dr. Ajibola Falaye from the Accord Party, Hon. Jenyo Ataunko of the National Rescue Movement, and Olaide Ibrahim representing the African Democratic Congress have withdrawn their candidacies.
According to Ayedatiwa’s spokesperson, the endorsement occurred during a solidarity visit made by the three candidates to the governor.
Representing the candidate, Dr. Falaye based their decision to support the governor on his dedication to public service, impressive track record, and exceptional performance while in office.
“We have been observing him, and his doors are always open to everyone,” Falaye remarked, praising the governor for his inclusive governance approach and commitment to prioritizing residents’ welfare.
He highlighted the governor’s security track record, saying: “The state has enjoyed relative peace during his tenure, demonstrating his dedication to protecting our residents’ lives.”
The Accord Party candidate also highlighted the common values of progressive politics and objectives that NRM, ADC, and Accord share in alignment with Aiyedatiwa’s administration.

“We have witnessed significant infrastructural development in a short time, clearly showing the governor’s dedication to serving the people. This Saturday, we will transform our commitment into votes and support continued progress in Ondo State.”
In his reply, Governor Aiyedatiwa conveyed immense appreciation for the endorsement, describing it as a wise decision born out of goodwill by both the candidates and their parties.
“I didn’t request this, but I am thankful that my fellow candidates have willingly aligned themselves with my mission and are prepared to encourage their supporters to vote for the APC,” the governor stated.
Aiyedatiwa expressed his warm appreciation for the candidates’ decision to rally behind him, calling it an act of statesmanship.
Recognizing the limited time before the election, the governor stated: “Time is running out. I urge all of you to motivate your members to turn out in full strength on Saturday and vote for the APC.”
This occurred as Benue Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, the Director General of the campaign Hon Abiola Makinde, and others joined Governor Aiyedatiwa to welcome the three candidates.
On Wednesday, reports indicated that the Court of Appeal in Abuja disqualified Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party candidate.
Just a day ago, Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urged voters not to be intimidated and expressed his support for his party’s candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi.
