Orimisan Aiyedatia, the deputy governor of Ondo State, has denied receiving any letter from the state house of assembly accusing him of serious wrongdoing following the start of the impeachment process against him.

According to Aiyedatia, the impeachment procedure cannot be carried out on the air or in the media.

While serving as governor during the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who was away on a three-month medical vacation, the deputy governor is being charged with gross misconduct.

When he appeared on Channels Television on Friday, Oshati Olatunji, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, declared the beginning of the impeachment process against the deputy governor.

“The deputy governor is being accused of misusing funds, according to the charges. Legislators have an obligation to carry out their duties. We are not conducting a witch hunt. This allegedly violates the constitution and involves an allegation of N30 million.

Aiyedatia responded by saying it was concerning that Olatunji would assert such a thing without presenting proof.

The deputy governor asked Nigerians to dismiss Olatunji’s assertion in a statement that he personally signed and was titled, “I have not been served with notice of gross misconduct by Ondo State House of Assembly.”

My attention has been drawn to statements made on national television by Olatunji Oslati, the chairman of the house committee on information and a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, to the extent that I have been informed of acts of egregious misconduct on the part of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

It is important to note that, as of today, September 25, 2023, I have not gotten any formal communication or “letter of allegations of gross misconduct” from

“I find it especially troubling that the House of Assembly’s spokesperson would appear on national television to discuss this issue without any proof that such a letter has been sent,”
