Olusola Oke, an APC governorship aspirant in Ondo State, expressed his belief that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s recent statement about there being no vacancy in the government house was a deliberate attempt to undermine the party’s upcoming primary election.

Oke highlighted the similarity of this statement to past instances, such as in Lagos with Ambode, where similar declarations were made by incumbents.

Oke emphasized that such statements by sitting governors are often seen as mere expressions of wishful thinking and desire rather than reflecting the democratic process that should be followed during primary elections.

He pointed out that the people should have the ultimate say in determining who occupies the government house through a fair and transparent primary election.

Oke clarified that while there may be no vacancy in the government house until February of the following year, after Governor Aiyedatiwa’s one-year tenure ends, there will indeed be a vacancy.

He made it clear that he does not intend to take over before the governor’s term expires, but rather aims to participate in the democratic process to succeed him when the time comes.

The governor’s statement has sparked reactions from various aspirants contesting in the primary election, including Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Hon. Okunjimi John, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and others.

The primary election is set to take place next week, with a number of candidates vying for the APC ticket to run for the governorship position in Ondo State.
