On the petition against Fubara’s election in Rivers, the tribunal reserves judgement
Fubara was not eligible to compete for governor of Rivers State at the time of the election, according to Tonye Cole, who cited the testimony of over 40 witnesses in support of his argument.
Tonye Cole, the APC candidate for governor, filed a petition with the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal, which is based in Abuja, but has reserved judgement.
In the governorship election on March 18, Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced opposition from Cole.
The parties adopted their last written addresses and presented their arguments in favour of and against the petition before the three-member tribunal, presided over by Justice Cletus Emifonye, adjourned the case for judgement.
In addition to Cole, Mr. Nyesom Wike, the previous governor of River State, was present for the day’s proceedings in court.
He would not, however, discuss the results of the day’s events with media.
Cole cited more than 40 witnesses to back up his assertion that Fubara lacked the necessary qualifications to run for governor of Rivers State at the time of the election.
