The release of nude videos featuring actress Empress Njamah, one of the Nigerian performers represented by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, has been roundly criticised.
Remember how the Nollywood actress’s estranged husband, George Wade, reportedly released the actress’s nude footage?
A source told Punch that Wade set up a WhatsApp group, invited a few people, and began sending out naked videos of the actress that he had taken at her home, including harmless ones of her taking a bath.
Remember that the couple broke up in 2022, and that Njamah said her “ex-fiance” hit her during a Livestream on her verified Instagram account.
However, the AGN stated, in part, “We absolutely condemn the leaking of private videos of our member, Empress Njamah, on social media,” according to a statement by the National President, Ejezie Emeka Rolls, which was provided to The Punch by the Director of Communications, Kate Henshaw.
“This individual, who claimed to be her lover, committed a criminal act of blackmail meant to tarnish her reputation and subject her to public mockery.”
It is important to remember that sharing naked images and videos of someone else that violate her right to privacy is a serious crime.
The Association further stated that it supports Empress Njamah in this matter and will offer full counselling support to aid in her recovery from the psychological and emotional trauma she is presently experiencing.
“We have been at the forefront of the fight against violence against women, and we see this ‘bad lover’ man’s actions as an attempt to undermine her dignity and self-esteem.
“We urge the law enforcement officials to find the offender and make sure he is held fully accountable for disrespecting Empress Njamah’s rights and dignity.”
“We ask her supporters to stand fully behind her at this time. The statement said, “She will emerge from this stronger and better.”
