On Sunday in Abuja, the ceremony honouring 2023 Armed Forces Remembrance Day was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The President and other top government officials laid the wreath at the ceremony, which was held at the National Arcade in the Three Arms Zone, on the final Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration before his administration’s demise on May 29.
Buhari was brought onto the saluting dais for the national salute as soon as he arrived at the National Arcade in Abuja at 10:05 am. The Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Nigerian Legion mounted a Guard of Honor, which he also examined.
Other prominent dignitaries, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola, service chiefs, members of the Cabinet, and diplomats, also laid a wreath.

Major General Bashir Magashi (ret. ), Minister of Defense; Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defense Staff; the service chiefs; Usman Alkali Baba, Inspector-General General of Police; representatives of members of the Diplomatic Corps; and the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion and a widow of a fallen officer were among those who also laid wreaths.
The 2023 wreath-laying ceremony was to be the President’s final as Commander-in-Chief, and he also ceremoniously released white doves from their cages.
Members of the Federal Executive Council like Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to the President Babagana Monguno, and Permanent Secretaries were also there.
