Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, who is running for governor for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, who is in charge of the campaign, have both been sued for allegedly mismanaging and diverting N2 billion that was meant for the National Assembly and Presidency elections in Katsina State.

On Wednesday, the ex-parte motion was filed at the Katsina State High Court by the party’s troubled Interim Chairman Salisu Lawal Uli and a few of the party’s local government chairmen.

The two were ordered to account for more than N1.05 billion of the N2 billion given by the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, during the recent presidential and national assembly elections, according to the appellants’ request to the court.

The Katsina PDP Legal Adviser, Mustapha Shittu Mahuta, esq., responded to the development by stating that the case was filed in response to numerous complaints received from party agents across the 34 LGAs and the 6652 wards of the state that they had not been paid their transport allowances and other logistics.

Uli stated the duo’s alleged mismanagement and fund-diversion were to blame for the party’s appalling performance in the just-concluded presidential and national assembly elections. Uli also spoke to the Daily Post about the development.

“His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar,” stated Uli. “He donated N2 billion to the presidential/gubernatorial campaign committee for Katsina State for election-related operations.

“According to our estimates, only N900 million or more was spent on logistics, which included paying agents, providing transportation, and providing meal allowances, among other things.

“If you divide the N2 billion by the 6,652 polling units spread over the 34 LGAs in the state, that comes out to N300,000 per polling unit; however, they gave out 70,000, and even in some locations, they gave out N40,000 to 50,000.”

We thus demand an accounting for the funds and a refund of the remaining amount to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar because they did not perform as promised. If they had, PDP would have won Katsina by a bigger margin in the presidential election.
