Kenneth Omeruo, a defender for the Super Eagles, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to swiftly address the appointment of a new head coach for the team.
Currently, the team is without a permanent head coach since Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro departed in February.
In the meantime, former international winger Finidi George took charge of the team for the friendly matches against Ghana and Mali last month.
Omeruo emphasized the importance of having a new head coach in place before the team’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin’s Squirrels.
He acknowledged that the team had a poor start to the World Cup qualifiers, but expressed confidence in their ability to qualify.
However, Omeruo stressed the need to quickly resolve the issue of the head coach as June is approaching.
Additionally, he voiced his support for Finidi to be appointed as the permanent head coach, highlighting the challenges Finidi faced with limited staff during his temporary tenure.
Omeruo also suggested that giving more players a chance to play in the match against Mali could have potentially yielded different results and strengthened Finidi’s candidacy for the job.
