Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the world’s oldest man, passed away at the age of 114 in Venezuela, as confirmed by local authorities. In 2020, he became the oldest living male and was officially recognized by Guinness World Records in 2022 when he turned 112.
Perez’s death occurred just two months before his 115th birthday in the state of Tachira, Venezuela. Governor Freddy Bernal expressed his sorrow and described Perez as a humble, hard-working, peaceful man who cherished family and tradition.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also paid tribute to Perez, acknowledging his passing and stating that he had reached the age of 114.
Born in El Cobre, Tachira, on May 27, 1909, Perez was the ninth child in a family of ten. He started working at the age of five, assisting his father and siblings with the sugar cane and coffee harvest. Perez later became a sheriff in Caricuena in 1948, resolving land and family disputes for a decade while continuing his work in agriculture.
He had 11 children, 42 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. According to Guinness World Records, Perez’s longevity was attributed to his strong work ethic, rest on holidays, early bedtime, daily consumption of a glass of aguardiente, faith in God, and carrying Him in his heart.
The current oldest living person is Maria Branyas Morera, who recently celebrated her 117th birthday in Catalonia, Spain. The oldest person ever recorded was Jeanne Calment from France, who lived to be 122 years old and passed away in 1997.
