Old naira: Buhari, Emefiele are no longer relevant following the presidential election -Oshiomole
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s choice over the currency redesign programme.
The Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, would have his term expire after Saturday’s presidential election, according to Oshiomhole, who also said that Buhari is on his own following Buhari’s latest remark on the currency redesign strategy last Thursday.
At Jattu market in Auchi, Edo North, the former governor of Edo State made this statement and urged Buhari to abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling about the naira notes.
“My hand no dey inside,” Oshiomhole added in pidgin in reference to all the wahala that Buhari had placed for monetary exchange. Our party has advised Buhari to delay any currency changes if at all possible and to avoid doing so during an election. If you don’t make a change in your lifetime, you’ll ruin another person’s time, which is not good.
“He has to abide by Supreme Court orders. The ruling of the Supreme Court is more authoritative than the president’s statement. Nigerian legislation states as much. I distance myself from that.
“No, they pick ham,” he continued. Demand the new ones from them if they claim to want to change it. The old ones are now being removed, but you are not receiving the new ones. The president of Nigeria is on his own in this situation. According to the Supreme Court, your naira will continue to be good. Keep your naira instead of discarding it.
“The Central Bank Governor, Emefiele, will be out of a job by the time you finish voting on Saturday,” he continued. Your funds won’t lose value. President, though, will pass away.
According to Obasanjonews24, the 2023 presidential election would take place on a Saturday.
