Olamide motivated me- Artist, Mayorkun

Mayorkun, the well-known Nigerian artist Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, has disclosed that renowned rapper and singer Olamide served as an inspiration.

The “Cheche” singer recently shared a video of himself freestyling on Snapchat, claiming Olamide was an inspiration for his songwriting.

The former DMW signee acknowledged the YBNL boss’s impact on his handwriting, but added that Baddo taught him that outstanding songwriting isn’t always in English.

“Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o!” he wrote as the video’s caption.

According to Obasanjo News24, Mayorkun gained notoriety in 2016 when he performed a rendition of Davido’s song “The Money,” featuring Olamide, and the singer found him on X (previously Twitter).

He was signed by Davido to his musical company, DMW, where he dropped his breakthrough track, “Eleko,” and shot to fame.

His fame was cemented two years later when he won The Headies’ highly sought-after Next Rated category.

Mayorkun left Davido Music Worldwide, or DMW, in 2021.
