Doyin Okupe addresses Peter Obi, asserting that the 2023 presidential election was fair and acknowledging Tinubu’s loss in Lagos State.
Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesman, has refuted Peter Obi of the Labour Party’s assertions that the 2023 presidential election was manipulated.
Okupe questioned Obi’s claim that the election was rigged, given that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were defeated in both Lagos, Tinubu’s home state, and Katsina, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown.
The previous Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign issued a statement on Thursday.
Okupe stated, “If Peter Obi, the 2023 LP presidential candidate, or the Labour Party claims that APC rigged elections, then how was Obi able to secure victory in President Bola Tinubu’s home base?”
Why did the APC lose the election in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home base? Why was there a loss for the APC in the home area of the government’s secretary as well?
Therefore, the accusations of rigging are completely unfounded and lack credibility.
The reality is that even in optimal conditions, the results we obtained might not be exact, but they will maintain a similar ratio.
The former presidential aide criticized the opposition, describing their assertion that “the presidency was stolen” as unrealistic.
“There’s nothing like that. The presidency was not stolen, although I am not denying there may have been some rigging.”
Tinubu won the election, with Atiku Abubakar of the PDP in second place and Obi of LP finishing a distant third.
After the announcement of results, Obi and his supporters, known as the Obidient Movement, claimed that the election had been rigged.
Obi and his supporters alleged that he was the rightful winner of the election, but they accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating the results to benefit Tinubu.
