Doyin Okupe, a former presidential aide, has expressed his admiration for President Bola Tinubu, stating that he believes Tinubu is the best candidate among all those who contested the 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu emerged as the winner of that election, with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party coming in second and third place respectively. Okupe, who was initially Peter Obi’s campaign director, now acknowledges that Tinubu possesses the necessary capabilities, commitment, and knowledge to excel in the role of president.

He believes that Nigerians should not judge the Tinubu administration prematurely, as he came into power after a period of perceived governance abandonment. Okupe insists that if given time, Tinubu will prove himself capable of leading the country effectively.

Despite his previous support for Obi, Okupe does not see his endorsement of Tinubu as a betrayal, as their shared belief in the need for a Southerner to become president led to their departure from the PDP.
