Senator Okpebholo claims Edo State Governor Obaseki is obstructing efforts for a smooth transfer of power. Discover the latest on this political standoff and its potential impacts on Edo State’s future.
On Sunday, Edo Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo claimed that the outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki, is trying to hinder a smooth transition of power before his swearing-in on Tuesday. This accusation came in response to Obaseki’s earlier statement on Friday where he mentioned not having received an invitation for Okpebholo’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
This information was revealed in a statement by his media aide, Godspower Inegbe, which was released to journalists in Abuja. It should be remembered that Obaseki had accused the governor-elect and his party, the All Progressives Congress, of organizing the inauguration without consulting or involving the state government in its preparations.
The governor criticized the proposed action, describing it as unlawful.

In response, Okpebholo criticized Obaseki, labeling his remarks as irresponsible.
He believes that a statement like this should not come from someone who still hasn’t called to congratulate his successor long after the election concluded.
The statement said, “Obaseki further alleged that Senator Okpebholo did not extend an invitation to him for the inauguration scheduled for next Tuesday. This is both laughable and dubious. Since Okpebholo’s victory was announced, Obaseki has used various tactics to impede a smooth transition of power.”
As a current governor, Obaseki should inform the people of Edo and Nigerians whether he has ever invited the governor-elect to Government House for a meeting or tour as would be expected from someone responsible. Has Obaseki reached out to Senator Okpebholo with congratulations since his election victory?
We encourage the people of Edo to overlook Obaseki’s irresponsible remarks and support Senator Okpebholo’s upcoming administration in addressing the numerous issues caused by this government.
Okpebholo further mentioned that Obaseki had not been present at the Government House for 72 hours prior to his official departure from office.
