Ohanaeze youths: Wike is driving the G-5 governors to political oblivion in 2023.

Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State have been counselled by the foremost Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, to discontinue their relationship with Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike.

The group’s national president, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said in a statement on Friday that the guidance was required to prevent regrets.

The two governors, who are vying for office in their respective states, would be doing themselves a big disservice, according to Okwu, by supporting a candidate from a different political party.

“Governor Ugwuanyi is an asset we will need in the Senate because he has the experience required to attract federal presence to the state,” he added. But if Wike were to trick them into supporting someone else, it might backfire and cost him the nomination. It will be the end of politics.

“We have reliable information that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, national leadership has decided to dissolve the state executives as well as kick the governors out of the party.”

“This shouldn’t be taken for granted since it would completely destabilise them and result in significant and preventable electoral losses.”

The governors should learn from what happened to the AD in 2003, when the party backed then-PDP President Obasanjo and then lost every other office.

Okwu emphasised that “if the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, had chosen him as his running mate, we wouldn’t have been hearing “Ayu must go,” reiterating that Governor Wike was engaged in a personal conflict.”

It is sufficient to say that Wike is only harbouring personal resentment and fury toward Atiku, and the two South-East governors who support him ought to give this some serious thought.

“Unlike the other governors who are on the ballot, the governor of Rivers is not campaigning for office and has nothing to lose.” He said, “They ought to break up with Wike right away.”
