Mr Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, the Zonal Coordinator of the South-South Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has urged government officials at all levels to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s institutions, including the judiciary, by following court rulings rather than trying to overturn them.

In a statement that he signed and made available to reporters in Owerri on Thursday, Arthur-Ugwa offered the counsel.

This, he claimed, would support the integrity of the judiciary, restore Nigerians’ faith in their government, and give their country pride in its position in the community of nations.

Nigerians are not stupid people.
Disobedience to court orders in flagrant contempt for the nation’s judiciary’s sanctity might inflame political tension.

The Ohanaeze youth leader urged Nigerians, particularly politicians and young leaders, to unify the country via their voice rather than separate it. He objected to the use of social media to propagate divisive information.

In the run-up to the general elections in 2023, he cautioned that any departure from issue-based campaigns might be fatal for the nation.

He urged individuals in positions of power to understand the impact of their remarks and to utilize their influence to bring the nation together rather than divide it.

“Our political leaders must accept the fact that Nigeria’s unity still takes precedence over inclinations toward certain ethnic groups or religious groups.

“As Nigeria’s unity is already fragile enough, no sensible person will foster crises in any way, whether via the use of social media or through the use of divisive, inflammatory language.

“As the elections get near, we must stop using any kind of incendiary language. We can only benefit from history if we take its lessons to heart, he remarked.
