Peter Obi’s presidency is not meant to occur in 2023, according to the foremost Igbo sociocultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide.

The organisation praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory as president-elect during the presidential election in Nigeria on February 25, 2023, calling it heartening.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide’s Director General, Implementation and Strategic Planning, Ambassador Tony Chiemelu Obizoba, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

“The organisation envisions the triumph of the APC flagbearer in the election battle as one that will lead to unifying Nigerians for a targeted development plan that will follow,” according to the statement. We are confident in Tinubu’s ability to maintain President Muhammadu Buhari’s accomplishments, which are clear-cut, unquestionably accurate, and will continue to serve as admirable examples for future leaders.

“The Ohanaeze Ndigbo congratulates Peter Obi for forging an unprecedented commitment to change the status quo with a hitherto unpopular political party, making enormous sweeps of votes across all areas of Nigeria with the exception of the North West to finish a “unputdownable” third place.

An umbrella organisation for Igbo people will always commemorate Obi, a former governor of Anambra State who worked tirelessly to make an Igboland-born Nigerian president a reality despite all obstacles. God, however, has not predestined it to take place in 2023. That might take place later. Everybody is spared by God.

It wouldn’t be inappropriate to also congratulate the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON, on his work, which resulted in second place. Igbo sons and daughters worked tirelessly for the top three political parties because Igbo people prominently participated in the campaigning and voting for the APC, PDP, and LP.

“But, no one should interpret the bloc’s support for Peter Obi in the South East as being hostile to other Nigerians. To demonstrate that, contrary to what some Nigerians claim, the Igbo do not despise themselves. Overall, this group feels that Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) being elected President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is well deserved based on the general performances of the candidates across parties. We extend our congratulations to him!

We also want to take this chance to address some Lagos State individuals who believe that Igbo people’s support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party represents hatred on their part and who are now endangering the Igbo people’s lives. It shouldn’t be like that. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide’s research revealed that the vote in Lagos was not just an Igbo matter but rather a decisive voting method by a rainbow movement of people from across the tribes, who live and conduct business in Lagos State. It should be viewed rather as Nigerians of all tribes exercising their right to freely vote for their leaders in a democracy, as enshrined and guaranteed in the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution. In the sake of Nigeria and the general welfare of the Nigerian people, those who are disseminating movies threatening and blaring the sounds of war over the upcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections on March 11, 2023, in Lagos State, ought to cease.

We cannot conclude this press release without praising President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Commander-in-Chief, the General Lucky Irabor-led Nigerian Armed Forces, the IGP Usman Alkali Baba-led Nigeria Police Force, the Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi-led Department of State Service (DSS), and the leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their impartiality that brought what peace and stability to the country

As a result, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide urges on the President, the security forces, and security/intelligence agencies to improve on their performances in the last election to make the governorship and national assembly elections on March 11 more praiseworthy.”
