President Bola Tinubu has been advised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest Igbo sociocultural organisation, to dismiss the minority of Igbos protesting appointments.
Ohanaeze said that a resounding 99% of Igbo people endorse the Southeast Charter of Demands in its entirety and urge President Tinubu to give them top priority.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been advocating for the Southeast Charter of Demands since June 2023. It includes important matters that need to be resolved immediately in order to improve the lives of the Igbo people.

The factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, demanded in a statement he signed that Tinubu listen to the opinion of the vast majority of Igbos and take quick action on the Southeast Charter of Demands.
Isiguzoro stated that not doing so will just make the Igbo population’s complaints and unhappiness worse.
He stated the following demands:
Establishment of Aba State:
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has always supported the Southeast’s expansion into a new state. The majority of Igbo people support the thoroughly thought-out decision to establish Aba State.
Release of Nnamdi Kanu Instantly:
Ohanaeze Ndigbo is adamant that President Tinubu step in to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s swift release from custody before the end of December. This act of mercy is necessary to bring harmony and peace back to the unstable Southeast and enable our people to enjoy the holidays of Christmas and New Year’s without worry.
Large-scale developmental initiatives:
Ohanaeze Ndigbo demands the execution of revolutionary projects, like the building of standard gauge railway lines connecting key Southeast areas and the development of a deep sea port in Azumiri Blue River in Ukwa East LGA, Abia State. These steps will promote economic expansion and mitigate the negative effects of the elimination of fuel subsidies.
Federal Roads Reconstructed Using Cement Technology:
There is serious concern about the Southeast’s federal roadways’ terrible condition. Ohanaeze Ndigbo demands that these roads be rebuilt with the use of contemporary cement technology, guaranteeing our people’s durability and enhanced connectedness.
Including the States of Anambra, Enugu, and Kogi in the Allocations for Oil Derivation:
Ohanaeze Ndigbo is adamant about the states of Anambra, Enugu, and Kogi—all of which the Buhari administration has acknowledged as oil-producing regions originating from the Old Anambra River basin—being immediately included in the 13% monthly allocation for oil derivation. It is a question of justice and equitable resource allocation that this inclusion is about.
President Tinubu has to understand that those pushing for further nominations to the Federal Executive Council are using a long-standing, elitist tactic to deceive the Igbo people—one that has been going on since 1999. Ohanaeze Ndigbo fiercely opposes this predatory strategy and opposes those who would jeopardise the Igbo people’s interests.
