Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a senior member of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), called the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal a “huge joke” for overturning Abba Kabir Yusuf’s election as governor of the state.
He characterised the tribunal’s decision as an outright injustice.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the panel had declared Yusuf’s victory invalid on Wednesday.
But he claimed that the Court of Appeal will overturn the tribunal’s decision in his response.
The party’s candidate for governor in Ogun State in 2023, Oguntoyinbo, claimed that the tribunal’s ruling could not withstand the test of time.
These statements were made by the NNPP leader in a statement that was made accessible to OBASANJO NEWS24 on Thursday.
He took use of the occasion to urge Nigerians and residents of the state to maintain peace and follow the law.
He told Yusuf that the people were behind him and urged him to maintain his composure and carry on with the excellent deeds he has been carrying out in the state.
“The verdict is a complete joke. The people of Kano State deliberately gave Abba Yusuf the authority to rule the state, and only they have the power to revoke that authority. At the end of the day, the people’s will will prevail.
“The reported judgement blatantly awarded the election to the APC Candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, invalidating the free, credible, and universally hailed fair election of our governorship candidate, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“To allow it to unlawfully award the election result to the candidate of the ruling APC, the Tribunal unfairly subtracted 165,663 votes from the governor’s total before reaching this unjust conclusion. By doing this, the Tribunal demonstrates its judgement that the APC candidate’s vote total was sacred, he added.
