Witnesses said that the event took place on Friday night about 9 pm when the truck carrying petrol lost control.

Three people have been confirmed dead, and two others have been hospitalised with critical injuries after a tanker carrying what was thought to be petrol—also known as Premium Motor Spirit—crash-landed at Lafenwa in the Ogun State capital of Abeokuta.

The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, expressed sympathy to the families of the accident victims through his deputy, Noimot Salako Oyedele, and directed the state emergency management agency to assess the situation in order to determine whether any affected parties might be entitled to compensation.

Eyewitnesses said that the event happened about 9 p.m. on Friday when a tanker carrying petrol lost control owing to driving too fast and slammed into two cars and a building.

Men from the federal and state fire services, the police, and other traffic controllers promptly blocked off the area. Residents were dealing with the terrible occurrence while the petroleum was transloaded and the truck was evacuated.

By the conclusion of the procedure, three verified fatalities and two confirmed injuries were recorded.
