Joseph Ogundeji, a prophet of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, was detained by officers from the Ogun State Police Command on suspicion of defiling two sisters in the state.
PUNCH Metro learned that Ogundeji was pregnant with one of the victims while committing the act.
The victims were members of Ogundeji’s congregation, the state police public relations officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Tuesday. He also stated that after receiving a complaint from the victim’s father at the Ajuwon Police Station, police officers detained the prophet.
According to the report, SP Andrew Akinseye, DPO of the Ajuwon Division, assigned detectives to capture the rogue prophet.
The prophet acknowledged that he had committed the crime when questioned.
“During the inquiry, it was found that the aforementioned prophet not only had carnal knowledge of the 16-year-old girl but also defiled her 13-year-old younger sister.
“The prophet who lives quite close to the church would urge the two victims to go and remain at his house after the vigil, which generally ends about 3 am,” the police were told by the victims.
The victims, according to Oyeyemi, also revealed that whenever they remained at the prophet’s home, he used to offer them something to lick. After they finished licking it, they would fall asleep, only to awaken to find that the prophet had had intercourse with them.
The victims told the police that the suspect threatened to murder any of them who revealed the identity of the perpetrator when they were questioned about why they didn’t tell their parents, according to Oyeyemi.
The PPRO reported that Lanre Bankole, the state’s commissioner of police, had ordered the suspect transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labor section for additional investigation and potential prosecution.
