On Wednesday, the police in Ogun State detained two brothers, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, 28, and Sunday Nwachukwu, 24, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry with the license plate JJJ 661 GJ from a vehicle wash.
According to reports, they were detained while they were travelling to Imo State in the mentioned car.
The two brothers were detained by members of the Federal Expressway Patrol who were conducting stop-and-search operations along the Lagos/Ibadan highway, according to Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesman for the Ogun police.
When the automobile was pulled up for a normal inspection at around 11:30 p.m., Oyeyemi claimed that the suspects had abandoned it and left.
The two brothers, who were in the automobile, “suddenly abandoned the car and fled to their heels,” the witness claimed. “While the cops were asking inquiries from one of them, who drove the car.
However, the police pursued them, apprehended them, and sent them to the Ewu-Oliwo division for thorough questioning.
In response to questioning, the two brothers who reside at 2 Onifade Street, Fagba Lagos, admitted to robbing Bello Muyideen Kolawole of his automobile in Arobaba Street, Idimu Lagos.
When the DPO of the Ewu-Oliwo division, CSP Toyosi Bello, got in touch with the owner of the automobile, he verified that the siblings were employed at a car wash close to his business and that they stole the car when he took it there to be washed.
The two suspects will now be handed to the State CIID for further transfer to the Lagos State Command, where the crime was initially committed, per an order by Ogun’s Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole.
