Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has been detained for his suspected role in a cult altercation that occurred in Sagamu over the weekend.
Five accused cultists, in addition to the legislator, are linked to the incident that occurred from Wednesday through Sunday and resulted in a number of fatalities.
It is said that the legislator for Sagamu State Constituency 1 gave the fugitive cultists a place to stay.
After receiving a tip, a team of security agents, including men from the Department of State Services (DSS), conducted a sting operation and detained the suspects on the legislator’s property.
Among those detained are Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade, according to sources.
At the DSS Headquarters in Oke Mosan, the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, they are being questioned.
According to sources, various deadly items, including guns, were found on them.
The development comes months after the DSS detained Bello for organising the violent demonstration in Sagamu against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) currency redesign programme.
Angry teens damaged roughly ten banks and other public facilities during the protest.
