The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Iyana, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, was set on fire by some alleged hoodlums.
Eight or so hoodlums stormed the surrounding fence, got inside, and started setting the INEC building on fire from the back.
According to reports, they drenched bread loaves in gasoline before throwing them into the building at various angles to light the INEC headquarters.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, Azeez Hamzat, the facility’s security guard, called the police in a panic at approximately one in the morning to report that the building was on fire.
According to reports, the Ibara Division of the police called for help from the fire department and dispatched detectives and firefighters to the area.
It was found that the inferno had a negative impact on the store, the officer’s office overseeing the registration area, and the conference room.
According to a person who spoke to our correspondent, the fire also damaged non-sensitive goods.
Obasanjonews24 learned that no one was hurt or lost a life in the incident.
It was startling, laments Ogun REC.
The event has been confirmed by Niyi Ijalaye, the Ogun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, who called it alarming.
“It’s true that our workplace was burned down. Police are looking into it. I’m at a loss for words. I’m also in disbelief. In the evening, we dialed the police and other security services. The situation was brought under control by the fire department. The extent of the harm is currently being evaluated.
“It is alarming and inappropriate. “We are meeting again later today to come up with new measures (to secure our facilities),” Ijalaye added. “The security services are trying their very best.”
