Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the March 18 gubernatorial election in Ogun State, stormed the electoral petition tribunal in Abeokuta to submit his plea.
Remember that the All Progressives Congress (APCGovernor )’s Dapo Abiodun was proclaimed the victor of the gubernatorial race in Ogun by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adebutu received 262,383 votes, while Abiodun received a total of 276,298 votes.
Yet Adebutu asserted that he won the election and that it did not reflect the wishes of the general public.
The PDP candidate went to the tribunal secretariat inside the grounds of Isabo court in Abeokuta with members of his legal team, Chief Gordy Uche (SAN), to formally submit copies of the petition in an effort to obtain redress.
The first and second petitioners in the lawsuit are Adebutu and the PDP, respectively, while the INEC, Abiodun, and the APC were added as the first, second, and third respondents.
After submitting the petition, Adebutu spoke with reporters and said, “We are here today to continue the pursuit of our democratic rights because we have had elections in which we genuinely believe we have fairly represented the people, and the people have responded by voting fairly for us in an election we believe we won.
“We shall keep looking for our mandate within the bounds of the law.”
The applications were submitted on up to “four strong grounds,” the petition’s attorney Uche said, in the hope that the Tribunal “would do the best.”
We have roughly three Senior Advocates on our team in addition to a large number of other attorneys who are involved not only because they will be paid but also because they think the money was stolen and that it is possible to recover it, according to him.
“We have up to four grounds, all of which are extremely strong ones, but it will be more enjoyable when our opponent discloses the grounds.
We really pray that the right thing will be done and that the winner will be handed the reins of power.
