The Ogun State Government has announced that tolling operations on the 14.7km Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway are set to begin on March 24.
Hon. Dapo Oduwole, the Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement indicates that the purpose of tolling is to ensure sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, and improved road safety.
He stated that the governor viewed the expressway as a crucial corridor for economic activities between Lagos and Ogun State, which is why its completion was deemed urgent.
Oduwole added that road users can travel along the route without any obstacles, as essential amenities have been put in place to make it one of the best in the nation.
“Prince Dapo Abiodun stated that when he took office and began developing an effective transport system to enhance the state’s microeconomy, he recognized the economic significance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.”
The government chose to adopt a public-private partnership model for managing the asset, which includes overseeing toll collection.
Since 2021, the government generously postponed tolling operations on that road to offer some relief to residents and other drivers.
At the same time, as we consider the interests of the people, it’s crucial to also recognize and address investors’ economic concerns. To achieve a balanced approach, we’ve decided to start charging tolls on this road after providing four years of free access.
It’s important to note that certain road users are exempt from this toll obligation, including emergency response vehicles like ambulances, fire service trucks, and patrol cars.
Other vehicles include those owned by the government for security purposes, official vehicles of the Ogun State Government, and any additional ones as designated by the same authority.
We strongly encourage all road users to adhere to these tolling regulations, as enforcement actions will be applied fully and impartially.
