The Chairman of the Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Taskforce, Akintude expressed that the structures pose a hindrance to effective education, and if not demolished could be utilized by kidnappers as hideouts.
According to him, it is unacceptable for public school fences to be covered with shanties and makeshift structures since they hinder learning and endanger students. He added that the state government will not permit such incidents.
He observed that certain criminals use the buildings as concealment and entice students to engage in unlawful activities. He cautioned vendors with makeshift structures near public school boundaries to voluntarily dismantle them for a peaceful atmosphere.
Mr. Seyi Oyegbami, the Global and National President of Old Students’ Association of Methodist High School in Ifo, praised the government for its initiative during his speech while also pledging that their group would collaborate with the taskforce to maintain orderliness within and beyond school premises.
