Olakunle Oluomo, the former Speaker of the Assembly, was overtaken by the crisis on Tuesday, leading to his impeachment and the election of Oludaisi Elemide in his place.
In response to the events, the governor and the Assembly decided that the lawmakers should be free to select any individual they wish to lead the legislative branch of the government.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by his Special Advisor on Media, Kayode Akinmade, the governor also admitted that the Assembly’s crisis had persisted for some time.
“Despite multiple interventions, there had been internal squabbling in the Assembly that had continued and become worse.
“Members of the House of Assembly have the right to select their leaders in accordance with the laws governing the Assembly’s operations and the constitution.”
Recall that the former Speaker was impeached on Tuesday on accusations of financial theft, inciting members against themselves, arrogance, lack of focus and transparency, and high handedness.
Nonetheless, the governor clarified that the government was collaborating with the All Progressives Congress, or APC, with the goal of resolving all contentious problems.
Along with the leadership of our Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the government hopes to see all the opposing concerns handled in a democratic, equitable, and just way, according to the statement that was added.
“The Ogun State Government has observed that the Honourable Members have publicly expressed that their grievances do not lie with the Governor, to whom they have once more sworn allegiance.
“Given that the Ogun electorate gave us a mandate to represent their best interests and deliver democratic dividends that will significantly improve their well-being, the Ogun State Government, along with the Party leadership, have intervened to ensure that whatever disagreement members have is resolved peacefully and amicably, so that the delivery of democratic dividends to our people will not be hampered in any way.”
