Ogun APC Restricts Unauthorized Meetings as LG Polls Approach
Ogun APC has enforced a ban on unauthorized meetings before the LG polls to maintain unity. Learn about the party’s strategy and its impact.
The APC’s Ogun State Chapter has prohibited aspirants or their allies from holding unauthorized gatherings within the party in anticipation of the November 16 Local Government elections. The ban specifically targets sectional meetings.
On Tuesday in Abeokuta, a statement was issued by Yemi Sanusi, the state party chairman, instructing to take action.
He stated that anyone who arranges or attends meetings related to the upcoming elections is doing so at their own risk unless and until the party officially declares or calls for such gatherings.
“The party will utilize its disciplinary powers to the fullest extent in order to penalize any unofficial or unauthorized gatherings that detract from our election strategy.”
He said that the party is cognizant of its ability to filter out any candidate who fails to align with the party and its principles.

Certain individuals have been urging potential candidates to convene meetings in preparation for the upcoming Ogun Local Government Elections, as noted by the State Executive Committee.
Political parties are the principal regulators of an organised and regulated civic activity known as elections.
He stated that the APC will be competing in the upcoming Local Government elections, as independent candidates are not allowed by Nigerian electoral law. Therefore, no individual candidate’s political status will matter.
He stated that the Party holds complete authority in determining its approach towards elections. Additionally, while acknowledging members’ liberty to gather independently, he emphasized prioritizing overall party benefit above individual interests.
He added that the organization and coordination of all arrangements for the imminent Local Government elections must be consistent and orderly.
This should be carried out by the state’s official leadership under adherence to party constitution. It is only permissible for designated individuals, either elected chairman or their representative, to summon meetings related to this matter rather than potential candidates or any individual affiliated with them.
