Mr. Ikechukwu Odono, the council chairman of Ebonyi State’s Ohaukwu Local Government Area, has vowed to do everything in his power to prevent attacks, insecurity, and threats to the lives of council members.
Odono issued a warning to thugs who break into villages in Ohaukwu and destroy valuable property to stop or face the full force of the law.
In Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Thursday, the Chairman issued the warning.
He praised the state’s governor, Francis Nwifuru, for working with the chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas (LGAs), saying that their cooperation allowed them to provide the dividend of democracy to the state’s rural residents.
“Hooligans have made Ohaukwu people feel unwelcome, but I can assure you that the Sunday attack, in which they burned two vehicles that belonged to the neighbourhood watch commander, will, by God’s grace, be the last attack in Ohaukwu LGA,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his willingness to establish a stable state of law and order in each of the councils’ constituent villages.
“We will bring peace and order to the council and put an end to any attacks on the populace so that our people can rest soundly at night.
Immediately after the incident, Mr. Sunday Inyima, the state’s commissioner for capital city and urban development, said that around 8 villages had been taken by alleged terrorists but praised the council chairman for his efforts in battling insecurity in Ohaukwu LGA, particularly in the Ukwagba community.
