Ibom Air passenger Obiajulu Uja was denied bail by an Abuja Zuba Magistrate Court after being detained on a trip from Abuja to Lagos for protesting the fact that President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu won’t be sworn in on May 29, 2023.

The Senior Magistrate, Mohammed Abdulazeez Ismail, ruled on Tuesday that the bail plea made by Uja through his attorney was premature.

Counsel for Obiajulu, Ejike Ugwu, reportedly claimed that the accused had a mental disability in an earlier article from Obasanjonews24.

The court, however, determined that the evidence included with the motion did not state that the defendant was incompetent to stand trial, but rather that he was of unsound mind.

According to Senior Magistrate Ismail, a court may deny someone their freedom notwithstanding the constitution’s protection of their liberty on reasons related to their health.

He then recessed until a report and hearing on April 20.
