The goal of this set of activities and products is to look at Nigeria’s elections and political changes in 2023.

Three of the most important people in Nigeria’s election process—Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—will be at a number of research events at Chatham House.

Obi will speak on Monday on the subject of “Nigeria’s 2023 elections: a vision for policy change and institutional improvements,” according to the organization’s website’s events schedule.

The former governor of Anambra State will discuss his goals for policy and governance reforms in Nigeria, with a focus on the need to combat systemic corruption and deep-seated insecurity as well as take steps to increase social and political mobility for Nigerians.

The head of INEC will then take the stage on Tuesday, when it is anticipated that he will speak about Nigeria’s plans and goals for guaranteeing inclusiveness and integrity in the voting process.

He will also go over the key issues and strategies for holding the elections, such as security and the use of modern technology systems.

On Wednesday, Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, will be a featured speaker and wrap off the discussion on political trends and Nigeria’s 2023 elections.

The leader of the NNPP will talk about his ideas for improving the country’s systems and services, with a focus on education and other top priorities for making sure everyone gets safe and fair service.

However, there is no information indicating that Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), will be speaking at Chatham.

At a related event last month, Chatham House’s Alex Vines, Director of the Africa Programme, had mentioned that Atiku, like Kwankwaso and Obi, would also be invited to present their ideas for restoring optimism in Nigeria.

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for president, spoke earlier at the British Royal Institute about the 2023 general elections.

The independent policy institution, whose headquarters are in London, tries to comment on current events and suggest solutions to problems around the world.
