Obi to FG: Prioritise Production to Tackle Insecurity and Hunger
Peter Obi has called on the Federal Government to focus on boosting production as a strategic solution to address the challenges of insecurity and hunger in Nigeria.
Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, has expressed concern over how ongoing security issues have devastated communities in Zamfara and disrupted agricultural production. This disruption is intensifying hunger and poverty in the predominantly farming state.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections expressed this sentiment during a condolence visit to both the Emir of Gusau and the residents of Zamfara State in Gusau on Monday.
He traveled to the northwestern state following military strikes in the Tungar Kara community, located in the Maradun Local Government Area, which resulted in approximately 16 deaths.
Obi, represented by Labour Party spokesperson Tanko Yunusa, expressed concerns that those who were meant to be protected ended up losing their lives.
Yunusa delivered a condolence message to the Emir of Gusau on behalf of Peter Obi, emphasizing that whatever affects the people of Zamfara also impacts him. This is why he was sent ahead to express sympathy before LP candidate Peter Obi visits in person.
Obi identified hunger and unemployment as key contributors to the widespread insecurity affecting Zamfara and the rest of the country. He emphasized that when prosperity prevails, maintaining security becomes more manageable.
He stressed that to safeguard the country, it is essential to return to its foundational focus on production rather than consumption. He argued that boosting production is a reliable strategy for Nigeria to address its current issues of insecurity, hunger, and unemployment. Therefore, he highlighted the importance of prioritizing this approach in government policies.
Bashir Danbaba, the District Head of Tudun Wada Gusau, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Emir of Gusau for Obi’s condolence message and acknowledged his solidarity with the people of Zamfara during this challenging time.
