Obi says that INEC is being unfair by asking the court to throw out petition against Tinubu

Obi said that he thought the voting body should stay neutral in all cases.

Peter Obi, who is running for president for the Labour Party (LP), has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is biassed.

The candidate for the LP was responding to a preliminary objection made by INEC with the Tribunal. The objection seemed to back the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who is now the President-Elect.

Obi said that the election body made a mistake by siding with Tinubu in the case before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

He pointed out that both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal had warned INEC in the past to stay independent, fair, and on task.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate also said that when INEC dressed up as a candidate in an election it ran in order to raise a preliminary complaint against an election petition, it was not only embarrassing, but it also went against what it was supposed to do.

Obi also said that he thought the voting body should take a neutral stance in all cases where people are suing to change the results of an election and not object to the plea.

He also said that INEC’s initial objection to the case he filed against Tinubu being named the winner of the presidential race was wrong.
