The Labour Party’s nominee for president in 2023 asserted that the situation has not yet reached a logical conclusion.

The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed the Presidential Election Petitions Court’s decision about the election on February 25, 2023, calling it unfair.

Speaking on Thursday in Onitsha, Obi commended the Tribunal for adhering to the statutory deadline and expressed respect for the court’s views and judgements, but he disapproved of the reasoning behind the underlying conclusions of the ruling.

He announced his determination to contest the decision immediately on behalf of the Labour Party and in his role as a presidential candidate in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Obi emphasised that the Supreme Court is now in charge of the situation and expressed confidence in it, pointing out that the Tribunal is not the final arbiter of this issue.

He highlighted the importance of upholding the law and called with all Nigerians to remain focused, determined, and committed to peaceful processes.

He made it quite clear that a rational resolution to the matter had not yet been reached.

Obi revealed that he has already given his legal counsel specific directives to challenge the Tribunal’s decision.

He displayed unwavering tenacity in his quest for justice on behalf of himself and the other supporters he said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had wrongly ignored around the nation.

Strong national institutions and public confidence in them are crucial for a vibrant democracy, according to Obi.

He argued that election litigation might be significantly reduced if INEC carried out its legal obligations in a transparent and unbiased manner. The judiciary must be used as a last resort when these agencies fail, as he said INEC did in this case.

Obi finished by expressing gratitude to all Nigerians who had helped him in his mission to establish a New Nigeria founded on the principles of peace, prosperity, inclusion, and sustainable growth and development.

He specifically thanked his legal staff, the “Obidient Family,” the Labour Party, and everyone who dutifully attended the court proceedings.
