Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the February 25 election, and his party affirmed to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Thursday in Abuja that they would only contest the election results in 18 states.
They argued that they would not waste energy in states where they had won decisively and without controversy.
Obi and his party submitted certified electoral documents obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in only six states at the conclusion of the proceedings.
The documents, primarily Forms EC8A and election results from polling units, were admitted as exhibits to establish their alleged election fraud and other irregularities.
The presiding judge, Haruna Simon Tsammani, acknowledged the documents as evidence after Chief Emeka Okpoko SAN, who represented Obi and the Labour Party, submitted them.
In the meantime, INEC, represented by Kemi Pinhero SAN, issued the documents and certified them as authentic, but shockingly proclaimed its objection to their admission.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shetima, who are the second and third respondents in the petition challenging their declaration as election winners and are represented by Adebayo Adelodun SAN, have also intimated that they will oppose the admissibility of the electoral documents.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, represented by Chief Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, argued that it would object to the documents.
Forms EC8A were tendered in 15 Local Government Areas of Rivers State, 23 Local Government Areas of Benue, 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River, 23 Local Government Areas of Niger State, 20 Local Government Areas of Osun, and 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti.
At the request of the two petitioners, the Court has rescheduled an additional hearing in the petition for June 2.
