The Labour Party (LP) has said more than once that it is fine with Olusegun Obasanjo’s support of Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate.

During a live interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Politics on Wednesday, Ayo Olorunfemi, who is the deputy national chairman of the Labour Party, said that the support is not just a “pat on the back.”

He claims that Obasanjo, like many Nigerians, is negatively affected by corruption.

We think that the few Nigerians who stole our money are incredibly powerful when we look at them. They have turned poverty into a weapon and think that money can solve any problem. No, he insisted, Nigerians are moving away from that narrative.

He is currently advising them that they must stop suffering in this way. I am giving this individual a clean bill of health because you have no justification to suffer in this way.

Obasanjo is claiming, ‘I’m endorsing this guy so that Nigerians would realise that, with the benefit of experience, this individual is superior to any other candidate, especially those from the two so-called main political parties,'” the New York Times reported.

“These are the individuals that banded together against us and caused this nation’s current predicament.”

He is a nationalist, an older statesman, and a person who has experienced it all. He took part in the American Civil War. In 1979, he was the one who transferred authority from the military to the civilian government.

“He did that even when people weren’t expecting him to.” And from 1999 to 2007, you were able to witness his return and how he was able to lay a really strong foundation for Nigeria’s economic expansion and development.

Obasanjo’s “Foxy” Nature Is Unknown To Young People: Obi Endorsement, APC

The LP stalwart praised Obasanjo as a man of integrity and recalled his strongly written letter to Goodluck Jonathan in 2013, asking the successor to “forget about” running for reelection in 2015.

Then Jonathan’s lads made fun of the advice, and everyone there witnessed what transpired next. Of course, he’s written this administration a number of cautionary and warning letters, but they’ve all been ignored. Everyone can see the outcome of that.

Obasanjo must be “seeing something” if he supports the Labour Party, especially our presidential candidate, according to him.
