Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, claims he has accepted Philip Shaibu, his deputy,’s public apologies.
However, Obaseki admitted that Shaibu’s uncalled-for provocation left him feeling quite uncomfortable.
The governor added that because of his faith, he was required to accept Shaibu’s apologies.
Shaibu and the governor had a falling out because of Shaibu’s desire to succeed Obaseki in 2024.
Obaseki moved the deputy governor’s office out of the Government House as a result of the disagreement.
Shaibu’s media team was likewise disbanded by Obaseki, who also had him removed from his position as the state’s supervisory head of the revenue generation agencies.
However, the deputy governor had sought his teacher’s pardon.
In a letter addressed to “Re: Public Apology by Shaibu,” Obaseki acknowledged Shaibu’s apology.
“I have noted the public apology made by the deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu,” the letter said in parts. This apology came after a bizarre act that goes against everything the people of Edo State stand for.
“To name a few, the deputy governor repeatedly broke protocol, launched unjustified and unprovoked attacks on my person and the State Government in the media, and needlessly petitioned Nigerian courts to restrain me, the State House of Assembly, and security agencies from an impractical impeachment process.
Although these unwarranted provocations gave him a great deal of personal pain, he claimed that as a person of religion, he was obliged to accept this apology because, as the saying goes, to err is human, to forgive is divine.
“In good faith, I believe the Deputy Governor’s public apologies is sincere and will be followed by repentant actions to hone his conflict-resolution techniques. I also command the Deputy Governor to instruct his deputies to act piously.
