Governor Obaseki urges Edo citizens to focus on his achievements rather than his confrontations, highlighting his dedication to the state’s progress.”

The outgoing Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, expressed his desire to be remembered not for the many battles he fought after leaving office but for his significant achievements in transforming the state.

According to OBASANJONEWS, the governor shared these comments while responding to reporters’ questions following the inauguration of the Airport Road Parks and Garden in Benin City.

When asked how he would like to be remembered after his eight-year tenure as governor, Obaseki simply responded, “Certainly not for the fights.”

During his years in office, Obaseki has engaged in numerous political battles with both his benefactors and opponents.

He noted that the people-oriented programs and policies implemented by his administration led to his reelection in the 2020 governorship election.

He mentioned that the same programs and policies led people to vote for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, in the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

He expressed that he feels valued, stating that the response from their supporters is quite commendable. It’s no surprise people voted for them in such a way.

I can’t overstate my gratitude for the opportunity to serve.

“My approach is to prioritize getting the work done before celebrating. We will aim to commission as many projects as possible, but I’m not expecting we’ll reach even 10 percent of what we’ve accomplished so far. That’s why people came out and supported us with their votes.”

Discussing the recently completed Airport Road Parks and Garden Project, he revealed that measures have been put in place to guarantee the garden’s sustainability. It is anticipated to draw residents every day.

When we considered how to manage all these public spaces, we also developed a revenue model to support them.

“For example, the revenue generated from local billboards will be used to manage them, and Prestige Hotel has committed to assisting with park support. Additionally, the military has pledged security assistance,” he stated.
