The newly appointed deputy governor of Edo State, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, was sworn in by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This comes after the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the State House of Assembly, following the adoption of the report by the Justice S. A. Omonua-led impeachment panel.
The panel was established by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate allegations of misconduct and perjury against Shaibu. Out of the 20 lawmakers present during the plenary, 18 voted in favor of the impeachment, while one voted against it.
The panel found Shaibu guilty of leaking government official secrets, but not guilty of perjury. In light of the impeachment, Omobayo, who hails from the same Edo North Senatorial District as the impeached deputy governor, was immediately sworn in as the new deputy governor.
Omobayo, born on July 19, 1986, is described as a seasoned engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas sector.
