Godwin Obaseki, the current governor of Edo State, has ordered the arrest of Adams Oshiomhole over his alleged involvement in a protest that resulted in the destruction of banks and the deaths of no less than three individuals in the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the governor’s commissioner for communication and orientation, Chris Nehikhare, Oshimohole, a leading figure in the All Progressives Congress, was accused of organising thugs to rob banks and disturb public order because of the shortage of naira.
“It is more than meets the eye,” it read. “We have been talking to demonstrators all day as we have travelled across the city.

“At this point, we urge security forces to detain Adams Oshiomhole so they may question him and obtain information about his movements, particularly since he’s been in Benin City recently. He intentionally sparked the populace’s outcry.
“I know people will see the protest as a result of the shortage of naira notes, but even if that is the case, Nigerians should know which political party is involved because it is ironic that the same party that is in charge of this policy is still sending people to demolish PDP billboards,” the protestor said.
