Obasanjo supports the devolution of powers after meeting Yoruba elders.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, welcomed the Yoruba Council of Elders on Wednesday (YCE).

Chief Ajibade Oyekan headed the delegation, which spoke about the South-expansion West and development.

The conference took place in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, in the penthouse apartment of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).

The previous leader favoured power sharing and urged honesty, harmony, decency, dedication, and candour while discussing issues.

Obasanjo emphasized that education alone will not produce the intended outcomes in terms of empowerment and employment.

“Young people are educated, yet they lack skills. And in this day and age, knowledge without skills is useless, he added.

Regarding the Yoruba agitation, the former president said that he had just lately realized that majority of the agitators sought devolution of power.

“The answers I received when I asked 12 people about their perspectives on restructuring were varied. Some have stated a desire for three or four regions.

Some others stated they wanted 12 states. I came to realize that all they were requesting was the devolution of powers, which is not an unreasonable request.

Among the elders present were the YCE Secretary-General, Chief Dipo Oyewole, the Ogun Chairman, Ekerin Osunlabu, the National Treasurer, Princess Bamigboye, the State Secretary, and Elder Dolapo Bakreen.
