Former President Olusegun Obasanjo warns of escalating insecurity in Nigeria, urging the nation’s leaders to take immediate action to prevent further instability and protect citizens.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has voiced his concern about the rising insecurity in Nigeria.

Looking back on his tenure, the former president emphasized that security was a major focus of his administration and encouraged current leaders to adopt proactive strategies to address the increasing threat.

During a visit to Bauchi on Sunday, Obasanjo met with the Emir, Dr. Rilwanu Adamu, and emphasized that addressing insecurity necessitates the collaboration of local leaders since many criminals reside within communities.

He stated, “While we were in office, we prioritized the security of lives and properties nationwide. At this moment, it is crucial that we take urgent action regarding this matter.”

“The most effective security measure is community policing, as it fosters familiarity among neighbors. This makes identifying wrongdoers much easier.”

I urge traditional institutions to get involved and promote community policing in their areas to help decrease the incidence of crime.

Throughout our service to the nation, we acted collectively, making decisions together to maintain a unified focus. My brother, Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, who is here with us today, can attest to this. Any achievements during that time were the result of our shared efforts.

He stated, “To move forward, our country requires peace, unity, and collective support. We can restore what is right and good; we just need to unite and work together.”

He mentioned that the former President would inaugurate two road projects finished during his administration on this visit, with the goal of enhancing state development and making transportation more convenient.
