For the improvement of Nigeria, former president Olusegun Obasanjo exhorted officials at all levels to embrace a democratic system that fosters wealth, the eradication of poverty, employment, and adequate security.

Obasanjo gave the speech on Friday in Oyo Town during the opening of the 34.8 kilometres of reconstructed Oyo-Iseyin Road.

Obasanjo believed that a democracy that fostered unemployment, poverty, and insecurity should be abandoned since it only typified backwardness.

He underlined the significance of growing some particular crops that would set Oyo State apart from others, saying that Oyo had previously been known as a centre for cassava production.

In order to strengthen efforts to increase food security in the state, he asked the state to embrace the cultivation of one more significant crop.

Obasanjo emphasised the value of effective road systems and praised Gov. Seyi Makinde’s forethought in planning the building, renovation, and rehabilitation of the highways that connect the state’s five zones.

Such initiatives, according to him, will hasten socioeconomic development across the zones.

He pleaded on Oyo State residents to assist Gov. Makinde’s administration in growing the state’s economy.
