The Oba of Benin has honored musician Rema with a prestigious royal medal, recognizing his contributions to culture and the arts.
Rema, the afrobeats sensation, has received a royal plaque from Oba Ewuare II of Benin as a gift.
On Thursday, during Rema’s visit to his palace before the homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium in Benin City, the Oba ceremoniously bestowed a plaque upon him.
On Wednesday, Rema accompanied Godwin Obaseki – the Governor of Edo State – to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of Edo Arena.
In honor of the singer, Rema, the governor declared that the arena with a capacity for 6,000 individuals will be referred to as Rema Dome.
Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, hails from Benin City and has been an enthusiastic representative of Edo State. Through his music performances and shows, he takes pride in promoting the rich legacy of the ancient Benin empire alongside showcasing what the state has to offer.
A tribute to the city of Benin is expressed through his newest hit track, “Benin Boys,” which features Shallipopi – a fellow star also from Edo.
Rema stated in the song that he should be awarded a medal by the Oba for his efforts in promoting the kingdom.
