A corps member reportedly faces threats from an NYSC official after criticizing President Tinubu’s administration, raising concerns over free speech.

A corps member stationed in Lagos State has claimed that she is receiving threatening messages following her public criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a viral video, the corps member known on TikTok as @talktoraye expressed her frustration with Nigeria’s deteriorating economic conditions, especially the increasing cost of living.

She expressed concerns about the government’s approach to tackling inflation and complained that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program has not been financially viable for her, as her expenses greatly surpass the allowance she receives.

She expressed that if many Nigerians begin to voice their experiences, it might lead to changes in the government. She added a message for the president, stating her uncertainty about whether there is any other leader as bad but criticized him sharply by saying he is an extremely terrible president.

The corps member expressed her astonishment at the sharp rise in prices of essential items, noting that a crate of eggs now costs N6,500, which is significantly higher than before. She also voiced her concerns over the soaring utility bills and transportation expenses, calling them unsustainable.

After the video began circulating, she stated that an NYSC official called her and allegedly pressured her to remove the post.

In a later video, she included a recording of one of these calls, where an official allegedly reprimanded her by saying: “Are you normal? Keep quiet and take down the video you posted.”
