The NYSC demobilizes 54 fake graduates from the University of Calabar and initiates plans for their prosecution, reinforcing its commitment to upholding academic integrity.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken further action to thwart unqualified graduates from obtaining national service certificates. Recently, the NYSC demobilized a group of 54 corps members who had been unlawfully mobilized by the University of Calabar.

On Saturday in Abuja, the disclosure was made by Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC.

Additionally, he stated that they would be subject to legal repercussions.

He claims that 19 individuals who initially registered online for mobilization have been barred from serving, and four wrongdoers failed to produce Certificates of National Service under the program.

In addition to the 101 certificates that were recently invalidated by the program, this brings the total number of voided certifications to 178.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi was praised by the Director General for her honesty in informing NYSC about unqualified graduates from her university.

General Ahmed added that the NYSC is fully committed to purifying its mobilization process, and will exhaust all efforts in doing so.

The University of Calabar’s Vice-Chancellor reported that she noticed some names on the institution’s list that should not have been included.

Upon checking the list provided by the school, I informed her that their certificates would be nullified. My admiration goes to the Vice-Chancellor.

The DG stated that a bread seller who appeared on the graduation list of their institution had been fraudulently mobilized, indicating the existence of unscrupulous individuals issuing false matriculation numbers and courses for students.

Furthermore, General Ahmed declared that the program will enhance its cooperation with all Heads of Corps Producing Institutions and pertinent stakeholders in the nation to halt the threat.

He stated that the responsibility for any deficiency in mobilization from a school lies with the administration’s ethics.

“Individuals with integrity should be responsible for inputting the data of graduates,” stated General Ahmed.

He urged all employers of labor in the country to authenticate NYSC certificates presented by job applicants before offering employment.
