The Federal Government announces an increase in NYSC corps members’ monthly allowance, aiming to improve their welfare during service.
The Federal Government has authorized raising the monthly allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to N77,000, starting in July 2024, which is a noteworthy move.
This raise provides much-needed support to corps members around the nation and is in line with the recent adjustments made to the National Minimum Wage.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Caroline Embu, NYSC’s acting director of information and public relations, made the announcement public in a statement.

The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission sent a letter of approval with the signature of Mr. Ekpo Nta, the commission’s chairman. This choice complies with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024’s provisions.
A monthly stipend of N33,000 was formerly provided to NYSC members; this amount was instituted following the national minimum wage increase to N30,000 in 2019.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the new Minimum salary Bill into law on July 29, 2024, which established the new minimum salary at N70,000, comes the most recent modification.
